What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a natural, holistic therapy that has been used for thousands of years. It involves inserting very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. These needles help stimulate energy flow and encourage your body’s natural healing processes.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture works by encouraging the smooth flow of energy, or Qi, throughout your body. Approached through a Traditional Chinese Medicine focus, when the flow of Qi is blocked or unbalanced, it can lead to pain, stress, or illness. By inserting needles at specific points along pathways called meridians, acupuncture can:

  • Improve blood flow and circulation
  • Reduce pain and inflammation
  • Calm the nervous system
  • Support your body’s ability to heal itself
  • Promote deep relaxation and stress relief

In short, acupuncture helps your body return to its natural state of balance.

What Conditions Can Acupuncture Help With?

Acupuncture can be helpful for a wide range of conditions, such as:

  • Pain: Chronic pain, headaches, back pain, arthritis, muscle tension
  • Stress and Anxiety: Promoting relaxation and reducing stress
  • Sleep: Helping with insomnia and improving sleep quality
  • Digestive Issues: Bloating, constipation, and indigestion
  • Women’s Health: Menstrual issues, fertility support, and perimenopause
  • Emotional Well-being: Supporting mental health, including anxiety and depression

What to Expect During an Acupuncture Session

Here’s what you can expect when you come for your first acupuncture session:

  • Consultation: I’ll take time to understand your health history and current concerns. This helps me create a treatment plan that’s right for you.
  • Needle Insertion: I’ll gently insert thin, single-use needles into specific points on your body. Most people don’t feel much—just a slight sensation or warmth.
  • Treatment Time: Treatments usually take about 40-60 minutes, and many people find the experience very relaxing.
  • Aftercare: You might feel deeply relaxed or energized after your session. It’s important to drink plenty of water and avoid heavy physical activity afterward.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes! Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed, trained practitioner. I use only single-use, sterile needles, and I follow strict hygiene protocols to ensure your safety. Most people feel calm, relaxed, or energized after a session, with very few side effects. If you do experience any mild soreness or tiredness, it usually goes away quickly.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of treatments you’ll need depends on your condition. Some people feel relief after just one or two sessions, while others may need more to see lasting results. I’ll work with you to create a treatment plan that aligns with your health goals and your progress over time.

Why Try Acupuncture?

  • It’s holistic: I treat the whole person, not just your symptoms.
  • Gentle yet effective: Acupuncture is a natural, low-risk therapy that can lead to powerful results.
  • Tailored care: Each session is personalized to meet your individual needs.
